Have you ever wondered how to measure the right bra size for your body shape and type? Trust me, we know how hard it could be to get the perfect fit to be comfortable enough to support you for an entire day. This guide will help you understand how to get the perfect fit for any activity.
A few issues that some women face over time are that some bra bands lose elasticity within a short period of time, the straps keep slipping off, the band could be too tight around the under bust or the bra does not stay put and slips and slides throughout the day which can get completely uncomfortable. Sometimes, weight gain or weight loss can also alter how a bra fits to your body shape and type over time.
Here are a few important things to keep in mind while going bra shopping:
Bra sizes come in different numbers and letters. While numbers determine the band size, the letters determine the cup size.
Wrap a soft measuring tape snugly around your ribcage, just under your bust. Ensure that the tape is levelled and flat to your skin all around, not too tight and not too loose.
If the number is even, add 4 inches; if odd, add 5.
→ Example: 31" + 5 = 36 band size
Wrap the tape around the fullest part of your bust (typically across the nipples). Do this while wearing a non-padded bra or no bra for best results. Ensuring that you are still able to fit your thumb under the tape helps with ensuring the bra you pick is more comfortable.
Subtract your band size (Step 1) from your bust size (Step 2).
Each inch = 1 cup size:
1" = A, 2" = B, 3" = C, 4" = D, etc.
Adjust the band of the bra properly by levelling the back to the front. Bend forward slightly while slipping the bra on and hooking it ensures that your bust is properly aligned in the cups. Make sure the bra is not too loose. You should be able to slide only one finger underneath the band.
Fix falling straps by tightening and shortening the straps accordingly. Put on a close-fitting shirt over the bra. If the cups pucker or your breasts bulge, you are not wearing the correct bra size. In this case, you might need a bigger cup size or can try to lengthen the band around the waist.
Choose a bra that fits perfectly when secured on the outermost hook. As the bra loosens over time, you'll be able to make the band taut by moving toward the tightest hook.
Check for comfort. If the straps or the underwire are digging in, it isn't the bra for you.
